2020 - 2021

Today the buzz around life skills education for girls is at an all-time high. SkEd aims to satisfy the core needs of students, recent graduates and experienced professionals, whilst meeting the needs of society, community and tradition. All these are designed specifically to optimize the career development and traditional-to-modern cultural exchange along with the main intention of providing a wisdom fusion.

Attaining a degree is a sign of formal education but it no more always guarantees individual growth, social stability or financial security. Skill education is the need of the hour for outcome-based learning that respond to global reality and learner’s aspiration. With a goal to create opportunities, space and scope for the development of the talents of the students and to enhance their technical expertise, L.A.D & Smt. R.P. College focuses on Skill Education as one of its pillars.

Skill education initiatives will help actualize the inert potential and development, for which the younger generation is much aspiring for. This can be partially achieved through focus on advancement of skills that are relevant to the emerging economic environment and also maintaining the original Indian Culture.

A need based list of feasible courses of skill development are enclosed that shall fulfil the desire of achieving the talent as well as oscillating between the need and hobbies.

Life skills-based education is a form of education that focuses on cultivating personal life skills such as self-reflection, critical thinking, problem solving and interpersonal skills. These skills include many attributes like good communication skills, positive approach towards challenge, general awareness, approach to lifelong learning, self-discipline and time management, sense of initiative, sharing and teamwork, stress management and much more. 

Various Skill Education (SkEd) Training, Workshops and certificate courses in collaboration with experts, institutions and industry have been undertaken by the college throughout the year.  Educational, Soft Skills, Hard Skills and Life Skills Development activities by renowned trainers and experts under the aegis of Skill Education were held. Several student based activities were held under the Training and Placement Cell where campus placement, corporate sessions were held.Students actively participated in Traffic Awareness by Jan Akrosh Volunteers, Youth empowerment program(Chhatraparishad),etc and they also enjoy the Virangula common room of the college and the concept of culture Kattawhich was initiated last year, where they perform at the Hangout outside the canteen.

2020

Career Guidance programme on ‘Careers after graduation’ was held on 9th January 2020. Mr. AkashJaiswal, Director- ‘Career Launcher’ was the resource person who enlightened the students on various prospects post their degree. 58 students participated in the programme and were greatly benefited by it.

A workshop on ‘Mock Group Discussion and Personal Interview’ was conducted by ‘Mentors’ on 10 January2020. Facilitators of this enriching event were the very able team from ‘Mentors’. 31students of final year of the college participated in the workshop.

Energy Swaraj Foundation had invited the college as a Partner Organization in the “Learn to Design your Solar System.” This course has given a unique Opportunity to become Energy Literate. One hundred and Sixty nine students from various departments of Shankar Nagar campus and Seminary hills campus registered for the Course which comprised of fifteen YouTube videos. Quiz was mandatory for obtaining the Certificate.The logo of the College has been has been placed on the certificate of the sixty eight college students who have successfully completed the course. Ms. Kanchan Bade was appointed as the convener of this course. The course was held in the first week of September 2020.

The Department of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, conducted workshop- Cake baking n icing on 20thJanuary. Thdepartment also conducted training for skype n telephonic interviews regularly in month of December and January. Flower arrangement workshop was also organised on 14th Feb for the students. Coordinator of MODROB, Dr. N.Sapra and Subject Expert, Dr. C.Gajbhiye had a meeting with the committee members on 3rd March 2020to discuss the procedure to be followed to procure the proposed equipments sanctioned with specifications and a list of the same to be put on the College website.

Weeklong Certificate Course for Students on Learn to Design your Solar System

Energy Swaraj Foundation had invited the College as a Partner Organisation in the Learn to Design your Solar System by providing a unique opportunity to become Energy Literate. Principal Dr. DeepaliKotwalwas the motivational force and coordinated this course. The logo of the College has been placed on the Certificate of the sixty-eight college students who have successfully completed the course.The course was held in the first week of September 2020. One hundred and Sixty Nine students from various Departments of Shankar Nagar and Seminary Hills Campus registered for the Course which comprised of fifteen YouTube videos. Quiz was mandatory for obtaining the Certificate. Ms. Kanchan Bade was appointed as the Convener of this course.

Demonstration of  ‘Water Color Painting by Ms. Aparna Rajvaidya workshop to enhance the creativity skills was arranged for students of Seminary Hills Campus in collaboration with NSS Unit II as an learning  activity which was attended by fifty eight students.

2019

  • Under SkEd the Scholarship Committee has started the Help Desk Course in “Digitalization of Application for Govt. Scholarship” for our students. The duration of the course is for 3 months.  10 students have been enrolled for the above course.
  • Ten days (March 2019) workshop on Makeup and Styling was organized for students of MFD Sem IV. Miss Smita Nair was the resource person.
  • 15 days (March 2019) workshop on men’s garments was organized for students of MFD Sem II. Resource person was Mr. Ganesh Shende.
  • Workshop on screen and block printing was organized for autism children on 2nd April 2019 on occasion of World Autism Day.
  • The Department of Hotel Management and Catering Technology successfully completed the third batch of hospitality training program for the hearing impaired from11th February to 30th of April 2019.
  • The Human Right Cell of L.A.D. and Smt. R.P. College from Women conducted 6 weeks Certificate course on “Water Conservation Right to Safe and Clean Water” and 12 week Diploma course in “Water Conservation and Water Audit Techniques”.  It was approved by R.T.M.N.U. Nagpur under Life Long Learning and Extension, under “JeevanShikshanAbhiyan“. Total 18 students were enrolled for Certificate course and 11 students were enrolled for Diploma course.  The course started on 14th January 2019.As a part of the course students submitted project on Water Audit of various colleges and collected information of rain fall and water distribution of various states. 
  • Workshop was held on Block Printing for autistic children on the occasion of “World Autism Day” on 2/04/2019 at Sanvedan School for autistic children at Ranapratap Nagar.
  • The Department of Interior Design collaborated with AFWWA (AIR FORCE WIVES WELFARE ASSOCIATION) for conducting Paper Craft and Calligraphy on 9th and 10th May 2019 for the children of Air Force officers and staff.
  • Round Table conferencewas arranged on 18/04/2019 by Department of Hotel Management and Catering Technology.The topic of discussion of Bridging the gap between Industry and Institute.
  • Department of Home Science Extension Education has organized guest lecture on Handling and Operating professional camera on 28th August 2019 for Home Science Cell -1 Mr. KedarPatil a Professional Camera Man and Mrs. PramilaMatil first professional photographer of Nagpur were the resources persons.  Students were shown different techniques and tricks to handle and operate the camera.  Various Vintage and latest camera was also brought by the experts.
  • Department of Commerce and Management conducted a week long certificate course -SkEd Level – II on ‘Investment & Career Opportunities in Securities Market” on 5th August 2019. On 10th August 2019 installation of new body of Commerce Study Chapter ‘Vittesha’ under the Agies of SQAC was also organized. On 26th September 2019 workshop was arranged for BCCA students on the topic “Hardware and Networking”, resource person was Mr. PrashilShahakar, Software Engineer. On     27th September 2019 Guest lecture was arranged for BBA students on the topic “Internet and Web Search Basics”, resource person was Mr. Prashant Joshi, IT Trainer from Mind Bloom Technologies, Nagpur.
  • Department of Botany had organized a workshop under the aegis of Fragrance, Botanical Society on Mushroom cultivation on 13th September 2019 for students of Sem.-III and Sem.-V.  Mushroom cultivation workshop was conducted by Dr. SumedhaPuranik, Associate Professor, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur.64 students were present on this occasion.
  • 21st August 2019, Training and Placement Cell organized a guidance seminar on competitive examinations, in Niyogi Hall at Shankar Nagar campus. The session was conducted by Mr. Rahul Vaidya, Director – ‘Gadget – The Career Tool’, who focused on awareness about various competitive exams like Banking, Railway Recruitment Board, Staff Selection Commission and conducted an aptitude test for all students to know their capability. He also informed the gathering about vacancies in different organizations, minimum norms required for the same, salary structure, examination structure for different positions in the jobs, etc. He motivated the students to appear for these exams. More than 300 students attended the seminar.
  • HMCT department successfully completed the fourth batch of Hospitality Operations Training Programmefor the Hearing Impaired from July 2019 to October 2019.  Thirteen deaf and mute students were trained in this programme for a Housekeeping and Food & Beverage Service. The training is being jointly organized by Sir GangadharraoChitnavis Memorial Medical research trust in collaboration with SAKSHAM Disability Employment Information Centre and L.A.D College.
  • HMCT departmentalso successfully conducted Hunar-Se-Rojgar Training Programme for Food and Beverage Service-Steward from 21st September 2019 to 18th October 2019.  The students underwent Industrial Training from 20th October 2019 to 20th November 2019.
  • Seminar on ‘Corporate Expectations’ was conducted by Faculty of Commerce and Management in Conference Hall for Final year students of B.Com. on 10-12-2019. Chartered Accountant Mr. Nikhil Nainani, Corporate Trainer for various companies, Soft-skill Trainer for various prestigious institutes, a visiting faculty at Pune Institute of Business Management- Pune, was the facilitator. The objective of the seminar was to aware students about expectations of corporate world from the candidates appearing for interview. He guided students about employability enhancement. He told four points to be kept in mind while going for interview i.e. Personal Skills, Integrity, Leadership and Initiative. Personal skill includes communication skills, aptitude skills, knowledge of computer, etc. He told that candidate must have knowledge about the company where he or she has to appear for interview and knowledge about post for which he or she applied for. He said that candidate must have knowledge of current affairs. There are some negative factors or obstacles to get selected, these are lack of general knowledge, lack of awareness about current affairs, tec. Students should be prepared for interview.
  • Seminar on ‘21st Century’s Career Opportunity’ was conducted by Faculty of Commerce and Management on 11-12-2019 for B.B.A. students. Miss PriyaHarshe, Director, Vestige Marketing Private Ltd., was the facilitator of the event. The objective of the seminar was to motivate students for self-employment and discuss avenues for the same. Miss Priya encouraged the students to prioritize their career. In today’s recession period there is shortage of employment, so students must think about entrepreneurship and in-turn create job opportunities for others. They must find out their own way for generating income. They must develop self-confidence and self-motivation so that they may grow towards bright future. Mr. RanjeetWankhede joined the session and enlightened the students. He said that one can start his or her own business of their choice and be King of his own empire, but to achieve the success they must work hard. Sixty five students attended the session. The session was very fruitful, motivational and interactive. The students learnt a lot from the session and many were motivated into pursuing entrepreneurship.
  • Department of Interior Design has conducted a Six Weeks Certificate Course from 27-09-2019 to 21-12-2019 on “Exploring Sustainability in Indian Context” under Jeevan ShikshanAbhiyanof Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, RTMNU.  The course focused on various sustainability techniques to be adopted to conserve environment and was conducted by the team of Yashodhara and NGO working for this cause. 35 students of Ist year BID have benefitted from this course. On submission of the detailed report regarding completion of course to the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, RTMNU, students would receive certificates having RTMNU Logo and Signatory in collaboration with College. 
  • Department of InteriorDesign conducted Skill education (SkEd) programmes in Paper craft, Terracotta Pottery and MDF accessory making for the students of Interior Design as well as for the community from 2nd to 6th December 2019.  In these programmes students were taught various skills of accessory making right from the stage of inception till execution. They were also given hands on experience through workshops in these programmes.
  • Department of Interior Design also organized “Kruti 2019” exhibition on 9th and 10th Dec. 2019. This event was a culmination of a weeklong Skill Education (SkEd) programme. Ar. BhushanJeswani, Chairman IIID, Nagpur Regional Chapter, inaugurated the exhibition. Dr. RijutaBapat was the Convenor of SkEdprogrammes and “Kruti-2019” exhibition.
  • On 18 -12-2019, Pre-placement talk by TCS experts was arranged in Conference Hall for Final year students of Commerce, Arts and Science from 11 a.m. to 12 pm. Miss Bhavika and Miss Sujata, members –HR Team of TCS had a talk with students. Miss Bhavika gave detailed information about TATA Group. She gave information about job position and environment in TCS, facilities provided by TCS to its employees.  After that Miss Sujata oriented students about online aptitude test to be taken by TCS for placements which will be held during 18th&25th January 2020. She gave information about registration for the online examination. It was online registration on the link provided by TCS. The examination named as ‘NQT ’Future Forward Careers National Qualifier National, Approximately 45 students participated.
  • On 19-12-2019, Seminar on ‘Personality Development, Interview Skills and Group Discussion’ was conducted by Training and Placement Cell of the college inConference Hall for Final year students of Commerce. Mr. Dhawal Bhatt, faculty at ITM Business School, Mumbai, was the facilitator. The objective of the seminar was to prepare students for campus placement procedure. He said that in Personality Development three points are important those are grooming, communication skills and knowledge. Grooming means your dress up, your hair style, etc. Communication skill covers body language, voice modulation and audience engagement. Knowledge means you must have knowledge of current affairs and of your subject. You can gain knowledge by reading newspapers, by practicing the work. He also taught about maintaining demeanor and presentation skills during an interview, the preparations required for GD, taking up the lead during discussion without overshadowing others. In Group Discussion you have to keep your opinion. Approximately 50 students attended the session which was interactive and motivational. 
  • The Department of Interior Designconducted a six weeklong Certificate Course on ExploringSustainability in Indian Context under JeevanShikshanAbhiyanof Dept. of Lifelong Learning and Extension, R.T.M. Nagpur University, Nagpur from 27th September 2019 to 21st December 2019. The course focused on various sustainability techniques to be adopted to conserve environment was conducted by the team of Yashodhara, an NGO working towards this cause. 35 students attended this programme. Dr. P. Pathak and Dr. V. Shrinivas were the course coordinator and co- coordinator respectively. The students and faculty members interacted with world renowned Pune based Designer, Ar. Shrikant Nivsarkar on 13th December 2020. Educational tour of BID III year students was undertaken to BhujGujrath from 05/01/2020 to 12/01/2020. Students with faculty members Dr. S. Sapre and Ar. S. Kaalmegh did hands on workshops at Khamir and Shilpagram,BhujGujrath. As a part of skill education students were taught Lacquered wood, Bela printing, Wood carving and Leather work. Weaving and dyeing workshop were conducted at Shilpagram.An inspection was conducted on 5thMarch 2020 by Indian Institute of Interior Design. The inspection team members were eminent experts from the Interior design and Architecture field; Mr. Rajeev Sathe, education Member from Mumbai and Mrs. AparnaBidarkar from Hyderabad. An exhibition of Students works for core, support, skill and humanities subjects were arranged in the Department. Current Students and Alumni were given an opportunity to explain their subject works.
  • 50 final year students attended a seminar on Personality Development, Interview Skills and Group Discussion on 19th December 2019 to prepare students for campus placement procedure. Mr. Dhawal Bhatt, Faculty from ITM Business School, Mumbai was the facilitator who highlighted on the three key points regarding Personality.
  • A seminar was conducted by Bajaj Finserv (CSR) on 31st December 2019 for the final year students of the Faculty of Commerce and Management. The sessions were conducted by Nagpur Division Co-ordinators, Bajaj Finserv, Mr. SiddhantAgrawal and Ms. ShrutiAgrawal to provide information about their Certificate Programme in Banking, Finance and Insurance (CPBFI) under its Corporate Social Responsibility Project. This was a 35 days, 105 hours programme for fresh graduates aspiring for a career in financial service sector. The programme was inclusive of three courses based on Banking (30 hours), Insurance (30 hours) and Business Communication (45 hours) where the trainees provided training by professional trainers from the company.

2018 - 2019

  • Department of H.M.C.T. conducted the program Hunnar Se RojgarTak (PMUSD) under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for Supervisors and Lab. Assistant / Attendant i.e. (i) Food and Beverage Steward Program from 1st September, 2018 to 6th December, 2018 and (ii) Food Production Multi Cuisine Cook from 1st September, 2018 to 6th January, 2019.
  • Department of HMCT organized Annual Cake Fair–Confection Connection 2018 which was held on 21st& 22ndDecember 2018. The Faculty of Commerce & Management has organized
  • Skill Education :Department of Interior Design organized Pidilite workshop, Home Science Skill Education workshops and Skill Villa – an annual exhibition on 4th and 5th January 2019 was held. 
  • Skill- Education (SkEd Level1) Department of Commerce organized a one week certificate course on Multiplying Wealth: Investments & Income Tax Return (MWIITR) during 14th to 19th January 2019.
  • Dr. Archana Masram Course Coordinator and Dr. D.Sridevi Course Co-coordinator under the human right cell conducted six weeks Certificate coursein “Water Conservation-Right to Safe and Clean Water” and twelve weeks Diploma course in “Water Conservation and Water Audit Techniques”, under JEEVAN SHIKSHAN ABHIYAN, Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, RTM Nagpur University Nagpur. Both the courses have started from 14th January 2019.
  • The department of Economics organized one day workshop on “Impact of G S T on Indian Tax System and Digital Banking of India”, on 18th January 2019. Dr. Krunal Parekh, Corporate Trainer, was Empaneled Resource Person.
  • Jewellery making workshop was conducted on 2nd February 2019.
  • Department of Applied Electronics organized Skill Education Programs during academic session 2018-19.  Four Skill Education Programs were conducted for students to gain in-depth knowledge about latest trends in electronics and computer software field and also to give hands on training in latest technologies. The programs were :
    • Solar Power Entrepreneurship Development Program from 29.01.2019 to 04.02.2019.
    • Professional Skills from July, 2018 to March 2019.
    • Virtual Instrumentation using Labview& MATLAB from July, 2018 to March 2019.
    • Know your Instruments from July, 2018 to March 2019.
  • Department of Urdu had organized two weeks “Certificate Course in Urdu” in collaboration with Justice M. L.Pendse School of Languages and Media Studies from 5 to 20 February, 2019.
  • Workshop on Skill Education Program was conducted by Deptt. of Zoology, Deptt. of Human Development & Alumnae Association of L.A.D College on Personality Development on 16th February 2019.Dr. KarunaGanvir was the convenor of the programme.
  • Department of Hindi had organized certificate course in Hindi translation from      1st March to 16th March 2019.
  • Department of Political Science organized one week ‘Computer Literacy Program’ in collaboration with Sigma Computers Nagpur from 25th February, 2019 to            2nd March, 2019, 45 students participated.
  • Department of Electronics arranged Skill Development Program “Broad Band Technician” course under PanditDeendayalUpadhyayUpakram of BSNL from          22nd February, 2019 to 8th March, 2019, 40 students participated.
